Maarakool
Stories that resonate

\ CHALLENGE

140 is a shopping, dining, and commercial precinct in Perth City that has been intrinsically tied with art since its inception. In 2022, they were launching one of their biggest initiatives yet: a physical space for Whadjuk Noongar storytelling and a supporting exhibition. Both needed a name and visual identity.

\ OUTCOME

Both the studio, named Maarakool (translation: With Our Hands) and the exhibition, Stories That Resonate, took inspiration from Whadjuk Noongar culture. The Maarakool mark and exhibition graphics are inspired by traditional line hatching techniques. This treatment was combined with the concept of resonance patterns, created by sound vibrations.
